Wednesday 24th November 2021
Speaker: Paul Salveson

Allen Clarke, perhaps better known by his pseudonym 'Teddy Ashton', wrote extensively about the Lancashire moors, mainly for a weekly column in The Bolton Journal, during and after the First World War. He explored what we now call 'The West Pennine Moors' by bike and on foot. The stories were put together and published as 'Moorlands and Memories'. Paul's talk will cover aspects of Clarke's life and the book, with particular reference to Turton. Paul recently published a biography of Allen Clarke as well as a centenary celebration of Clarke's 'Moorlands' book, called 'Moorlands, Memories and Reflections'. Copies of both books will be available at the talk.
