Turton Local History Society

Turton Local History Society
Turton Local History Society was established in 1974 with the aim of promoting an interest in history in general and of our own area in particular by discussion, research and record.

Our area, the old Urban District of Turton, includes the ancient Townships of Bradshaw, Edgworth, Entwistle, Harwood, Longworth, Quarlton and Turton (which includes Bromley Cross, Chapeltown, Eagley and Egerton).

Illustrated talks and meetings are held from August to April inclusive on the fourth Thursday of the month, at Harwood Methodist Church beginning at 7.30pm.

To date we have published 38 booklets on local topics researched from deeds, maps and documents loaned from private possession, and we are indebted to those people who have kindly allowed us access to information previously unpublished. This is backed up with existing records held by Bolton Local Studies, Lancashire Archives and others.

We have organised many slide shows/talks and walk-abouts for local schools and talked to many Societies and Clubs who have an interest in Turton local history.  Any organisation seeking a speaker or requiring further information on the Society should contact the Secretary.

The "Membership" page contains information about how you can support Turton Local History Society by becoming a member.
