What is the address for the meetings?
Harwood Methodist Church, Longsight, Bolton BL2 3HX.
There is a car park at the church.
What time should I arrive?
The meeting starts at 7:30pm, but we like our speakers to arrive 30 minutes early in order to allow time to get the presentation loaded and acquaint you with the video and sound system.
What equipment do I need to bring for my presentation?
There is a large LED screen at the hall so you don't need to bring an overhead projector.
We will provide a laptop that will run your presentation. It is a Windows laptop with Microsoft PowerPoint installed.
I don't use Microsoft PowerPoint - is that a problem?
Talk to us before hand about the format you use so we can make sure we can run it.
Can I use my own laptop?
If you prefer to use your own laptop you are welcome to do so. It will need to have a HDMI port (Type A standard) to connect to the hall's video system.
Is there a pointing device?
Yes, we have one that works with our laptop, but if you want to bring your own wireless clicker then please do. Our laptop has a USB connector.
Note that laser pointers don't work on the LED screen.
Will there be a microphone?
Yes - the hall is quite large, so has a good sound system with hearing loop (for people with hearing aids). We have a handheld microphone or a static one on the lectern, as you prefer.
Can I have a table to display artefacts or sell my books?
Yes, no problem, we can put one out for you - just ask.
How long should my talk be?
50-60 minutes is ideal. If you need longer let us know before hand so we can make special arrangements.
What is the format of the meeting?
Our chairman will open the meeting and then hand over to the speaker. At the end of the talk the audience will be given the opportunity to ask a few questions. Afterwards, refreshments are available and everyone has a bit of a chinwag. We're a friendly bunch.
How many attendees will there be?
There are generally between 30 - 70 attendees at each meeting, varying with the time of year, the weather, and the topic.
How will my fee be paid?
Your fee, including expenses, should have been agreed with you at the time of booking. It will be paid to you in cash on the night by the Society's Treasurer.
I would like to give a talk to Turton Local History Society - who do I contact?
